Research Interests:
I am interested in cultural approaches to issues related to diversity and inclusion, marketing strategy, and cross-cultural communication. I want to explore the ways cultural symbols are created, change, and can be used for good within organizations.
What career would you like to pursue after graduation?
Although flexible, I am focused on continuing my work as a writer and consultant. I would love to take the work I produce in this program and use it as catalyst for starting my own practice someday. I hope to create enough freedom in my career to continue teaching in the classroom part-time as well.
What are your academic background and major of study? (i.e. previous undergrad or masters colleges attended)?
I have a BA in Philosophy and a MA in Sociology from UNCC.
What faculty are you working with and what are you working on with them? (i.e. through your GA)
I hope to work with Dr. Shawn Long on research related to diversity issues in organizations.
Do you have any practical/business/professional experience? If so, tell me a little about these experiences.
I spent several years as a sales representative with Verizon Wireless, before leaving to teach Sociology full time at Stanly Community College. After 3 years as a college instructor, I left to work as a diversity and inclusion consultant for The Winters Group Inc. What excites you most about beginning the Organizational Science program? I have always wanted to marry my passion for research with practical issues that would be useful to organizations. I feel like I have found the perfect home. I can’t wait to be around the other faculty and students who share similar interests. What about the program and/or graduate life has been most surprising? I haven’t officially started, but already this summer the communication from Dr. Rogelberg and the support of the faculty have been amazing.
